This book, probably this author, is a hidden gem. It's witty, and much closer to the writing of Jane Austen herself than most Regencies. The title is the title of the play put on in Austen's Mansfield Park, but in this book the play being presented is Romeo and Juliet. Holly, the protagonist, is a poor relation, and conveniently plain. Her cousin, an heiress, is a young-looking and lovely 17, and she will play Juliet, with Holly to chaperone her amongst aesthete Lord Dewar and his fun-loving bachelor friends. Every character is drawn with wit, and the plot more complex than you expect from a slim Regency. This book is fun!
