Love that pierces the spirit (A Bay Area rabid reader)

This is one of those books that never should have gone out of print. As a description of a difficult love affair staged in a corporate atmosphere it has no parallel that I am aware of. However, those are just the bones. The way the author lives inside the minds and skins of the protaganists makes you wonder about her own experiences in the same arena. Aside from that, it is written in prose both gracefully sympathetic and keenly sensual, making one lift one's eyes from the page on several occasions to reflect on the all consuming and transformative powers of love, however "inappropriate" that union may be. You feel for the characters and their frustrations and want them to reach a state of satisfaction, though that comes about in a way that is not what is hoped for by characters or reader alike.
