The chapter "Five Most Excellent Lizard Pets" presents the most common species for newcomers, including the leopard gecko, green anole, bearded dragon, Chinese water dragon, blue-tongued skink, each illustrated with color photos and detailed with specific advice about feeding and housing. Additional examples of lizards are covered in "Other Cool Lizards," such as the green iguana, chameleon, monitor lizard, tokay and day geckos and uromastyx; all of which are fascinating to read about though not recommended for beginners. A chapter on potential health problems gives a basic overview of how to care for and maintain captive lizards in the best of health. Sidebars throughout the text give the reader good advice on dos and don'ts to avoid common mistakes keepers make with these pet animals. Glossary included.

Great intro to Lizards

This book is one of three written by Reptiles Magazine editor Russ Case. All three are extremely easy to read, full of useful information and a great introduction to the care & keeping of reptiles. My teenage son has read all three and the only problem now is choosing what pet to start with! I can highly recommend all three.
Lizards

All kids seem to be entranced by lizards. I wish that when I lived in the desert I knew as much about them as is in this book. My friend's 9-year-old is a city kid, so I got him this, plus "Snakes" and "Turtles & Tortoises." He'll be smarter than I am about desert creatures when he's done reading them.

Thinking of buying your kid a beardie or a frilled lizard? This book will start them on the way to responsible pet lizard ownership. I wish we'd had this years ago when friend's son had his bearded dragon. It details everything from how to set up their enclosure and the temperatures they need, to what to feed them and how often.
