Book Overview

Fifty-five years ago, Helen L. Taylor took John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress and simplified the vocabulary and concepts for young readers, while keeping the storyline intact. The result was a classic in itself, which has now sold over 600,000 copies. It's both a simple adventure story and a profound allegory of the Christian journey through life, a delightful read with a message kids ages 6 to 12 can understand and remember. A new look and fresh illustrations for today's children enlivens the journey to the Celestial City.

A Good Introduction to the Bunyan Classic

I always found Pilgrim's Progress a daunting read and was never able to get very far into it in spite of being a voracious reader. This delightful adaptation stays true to the original, (which I have now read, and seen several productions, and listened to an audio book) and was perfect to whet my appetite for the Bunyan original.

character qualities

we used this as a read aloud with our kids ages 4-11 they love it. 2-3 page chapters make it a great bed time story. We talked about christian characteristics and worldly charateristics these things are rarely taught. Great Book!

OutSTANDING Book!

We are reading it for homeschooling and are really enjoying it! My 6 year old son is completely into it and loves to describe the characters.

The best book I have ever read my children!

I was given this book, in its first printing, in an old stack of books about 6 years ago by my mother-in-law. The cover was different and uninteresting looking but it had no effect on what was inside the cover. This is the best book I have ever read to my children and they strongly agree. It took us a year to get through it at bedtime, but we all enjoyed it. They were 4 years old and 7 years old at the time, so the age range is much broader than specified. I learned so much from the book and so did they. It is challenging, both verbally and spiritually, and captivating. My children would beg me to read it to them because they couldn't wait to find out what happened to the children in the book. I recommend this book to everyone, both the Christian and non-Christian. You will not be sorry! Enjoy!
