The laboratory companion to Introduction to the Biology of Marine Life by James L. Sumich and John F. Morrissey, this laboratory manual further engages students in the excitement and challenges of... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I have enjoyed using this labbook all year. It comes up with very creative ways of exploring all aspects of marine biology, including chemical and physical background. Sumich goes through many different phyla, allowing for an in-depth analysis of groups as varied as Echinodermata, Cnideria, and Mammalia. The one thing missing is a Teacher's Guide- it's not always easy to know what answers the book is thinking of when you go through the labs. I've particularly enjoyed that all the labs are broken up into multiple sections, and subsections. This allows someone with a multitude of resources to do many different types of analysis. A lot of the lab can be followed with some simple specimen collection from the surrounding coast. The lab is also great for someone like myself, teaching in a 2/3rds World school with limited resources, to pick out the parts that are actually possible do do. And there are many parts of the lab that are accessible to the resource challenged.
