I couldn't put this page-turner down. This chilling mystery has a tight, intriguing plot and interesting characters. At its core, Ms Rehner explores the social problem of violence towards women. The moral dilemma the protagonist, reporter Lily Ross, must address is the validity of revenge and vigilante justice when the system of justice fails women who are victimized by monstrous men. In other words, are there times when a murder is "just?" This is Ms. Rehner's first mystery novel. I'm looking forward to reading more from her.

Hi --I realize it is a little unorthodox for an author to write her own review, but I believe you'd really enjoy this book if you gave it a try. It won the Arthur Ellis Award for best first novel in 2004. It's exciting. It's set in Toronto. I'd love to know what you think. Cheers.
