Austen's England review
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 18 years ago
I enjoyed this book very much, as it provided a different kind of background to my reading of five of Jane Austen's novels. It describes the England of Jane Austen's time, particularly the growing fascination with landscapes and the "picturesque" and how these concepts influenced her and fit into her novels; it also covers all the places Austen lived or visited. A worthy read. One needn't read every word or even every chapter (some of the language is a bit flowery), but it's great background to the Austen novels. I'm glad I read it.
