Fabia lives on her father's vineyard near Atella. She longs to learn about the care of grapes and wine-making, but her parents want her to find a good marriage. Bellovesus, the son of the Gallic slave who runs the vineyard for Fabia's father, wants nothing more than to care for the grapes that his father is growing. Everything changes for these two one night when Fabia sees something mysterious in the vineyard. This story is written to engage second- and third-level Latin students. It has ties to Pliny as well as the Aeneid, and is set in the late 60s BCE, just before the Gallic Wars, as a lead-in to investigations into Gallo-Roman cultural relations found in the AP Latin curriculum.
