In a World of Hurt

After the pandemic hits, Ellababe and husband Tim's start-up restaurant goes belly up, like many businesses during the shutdown. They divorce and she isolates, struggling to kickstart her life again. Tim revisits some old, reckless habits and then abruptly goes missing. Ortiz, a Marine turned P.I., investigates and finds Tim has secrets to spare, and they threaten her as well. Money's gone missing and dangerous people are looking for it.

Ten days later, Tim's body is discovered, drowned, in the Canadian River, only miles from Ellababe's home. As Ortiz digs deeper, he puts himself in danger as well. A political-minded D.A. and a ruthless prosecutor with strange ties to the victim's family sabotage the investigation. Ortiz and Ellababe will need a brave ex-employee, a dangerous homeless woman, and a parent's honesty to finally solve this twisting crime.
