Book Overview

In our age of pride in affluence, no message is more needful than this: "Humility is the only soil in which the graces root. Pride must die in you, or nothing of Heaven can live in you. Look not at pride only as an unbecoming attitude, nor at humility only as a decent virtue: for the one is death, and the other is life; the one is all Hell, the other is all Heaven."

Elementary

Nothing deep here, and author's frequent term "allow GOD," is irritating We don't "allow GOD" to do anything. He does what He wills in all His creation.

A pivotal book in my spiritual walk

A must read for anyone who desires to love and follow Jesus wholeheartedly. I became aware of much pride in myself only after pursuing humility. This book teaches from scripture the roots of pride, Jesus’ ministry of humility, and much more. I will refer to this book often.

A fantastic discipling tool that will chisel pride out of your heart

This book delivers way more than one would expect. First of all it is not that long of a book. But it takes a long time to read because you cannot breeze through it. Written by a South African pastor in the 1800's, this book has a woodenness to the english that slows you down. This is good because the topic is so deep that you want to stop and pray every page or two. It leveled me to the ground about 12 years ago. It is still at the top of my list. As a pastor, I have recommended this book to many, many people. It usually changes their lives. The fruit tends to be enduring and deep. I first encountered it when I was a YWAM student. It was required reading in our discipleship school. I think this book should be read by every Christian. If you don't have a copy, buy an extra one so that you can have a loaner.

With all thy getting, GET HUMILTY

If you really think about, Christ's primary attribute is humility. We think His primary attrbute is love. But how could Christ even have come to earth and loved us but for humility. This book opened my eyes to the fact, if this were such an attribute in Christ, I must allow Him to work it into me as well.
