Guiding the reader toward the best and sometimes strangest day trips in the area, a lifelong resident of the Hudson Valley reviews the region's state parks and historical sites and provides fascinating facts on its woodlands, museums, lighthouses, battlegrounds, and other attractions. 30 photos.
This is a wonderful book for anyone interested exploring the Hudson Valley and its history. I've been to Claudius Smith's Den and the iron mines of Harriman State Park, walked the towpath of the D & H Canal, climbed the Indian Ladder, explored the wildlife sanctuary at Iona Island, marveled at the amazing art of Opus 40 and enjoyed hiking in Goosepond Mountain and Winding Hills Parks. Until reading this book, I'd never heard of most of these places. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and the adventures it made possible.
