Book Overview

An Appalachian Girl Seeks a Place to Belong

Return to the mountains of 1910s Appalachia with beloved author Pepper Basham to discover Kizzie McAdams's story.

Kizzie McAdams spent her childhood longing to see beyond the mountains of home, but when her job as a servant in a landowner's house results in an unplanned pregnancy, her world tips into uncertainty and heartbreak. Disowned by her father, she seeks comfort in the arms of the man who promises to take care of her, but his support is conditional and inconsistent. She finds acceptance in the home of a nearby family who not only offer Kizzie friendship but point her to a deeper understanding of God's love.

Despite her change of heart, her status as a social outcast brings with it continued threats and alienation so she flees her past in hopes of starting over in a nearby town. But her new world carries many of the same prejudices as the old. It also brings the unexpected friendship of businessman Noah Lewis, a man who lives with the same desire as Kizzie for helping the marginalized.

Unfortunately, Kizzie and Noah's attempts to help those in need pit them against Noah's elder brother, a powerful mill owner who holds control of the family finances. Is Kizzie and Noah's growing romance strong enough to battle family power, social expectations, and Kizzie's past to capture their happy ending? And when Kizzie's first love returns to claim her, which future will she choose?

From Broken to Redemption

Stunning, Beautiful! Words cannot express how I feel after reading Kizzie’s story. Kizzie has a wildness experience in her life and as she finds her way to her refuge and hope you will be moved to tears. One of my favorite quotes is, Maybe belonging has a lot more to do with accepting where God had placed her and loving His plan in the best way she could. Poetic words that wrap around your heart like the coziness of a soft blanket and stick with you long after reading the last page. A story of brokenness with healing and joy found on the path to redemption. I must say this is one of my all time favorite books as it just resonated within my spirit. Well written with characters that feel like family. Take a step back in time to 1917 in the Appalachian Mountains and learn the ways of the people. I guarantee you will not be disappointed that you moved this to the top of your must read books. Can I just simply say I absolutely loved this story. I was blessed to receive a complimentary copy from CelebrateLit/Barbour Publishing. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.

The Faith of Friends

5 stars, The Faith of Friends HOPE LIKE WILDFLOWERS (MY HEART BELONGS IN THE BLUE RIDGE BOOK 3) BY Pepper Basham This book starts out with heartbreaking tale of Kizzie McAdams, an Appalachian girl who leaves her mountains to work for a wealthy landowner, as a servant. The landowner, in a tale as old as time, takes advantage of the beautiful Kizzie and she becomes pregnant. Her father disowns her, the landowner wants to keep her hidden away, she wants more for her child and herself. Kizzie makes new friends and restores her faith in God. She knows that He will never leave or forsake her. She starts over in a new town, forging new friendships with the unusual people that come her way. It was hard for me to get past the lying, cheating ways of Charles and his mother. The author did a great job of making them unlikeable. I liked Kizzie, Nella, Joshua, Noah, Victoria, Gayle, and of course, little Charlie. I thankfully received a complimentary copy of #hopelikewildflowers from #barbourfiction I was under no obligation to post a review. #Christianfiction #historicalfiction #cleanromance #inspirational #Appalachia #NorthCarolina #PepperBasham #myheartbelongsintheblueridgeseries #standalone

A Story of Redemption and Love

I’ve wanted to know Kizzie’s story since the first book in the series when she is mentioned, and readers will finally have it in this excellent story. Kizzie’s story is simply beautiful. Every person, like me, who has ever made terrible choices with lasting consequences, will be able to relate to Kizzie’s journey to redemption and self-forgiveness. She is proof once God gets a hold of a person and that person surrenders, life changes for the better even in the darkest of times. The hero, Noah Lewis is the best sort of man who lives out his faith and sees beyond the sordid past of the woman, with whom he falls in love. There are so many tender moments, and I will admit I cried once with sad tears and a second time with happy tears. So, you might want to keep the tissues close by. Basham paints a lovely and positive image of the Appalachian Mountain folk that the world would consider ignorant. They may not use the best grammar, but they have common sense and smarts one can only learn through strong, good values. The people in this series are dear to me and possess the best qualities a person should have. I can’t help but feel a little sad that their stories are finished.
