This is the best book about baseball I have ever read. It puts you in the center of a boy's mind at the very heart of the game as he struggles to work his way through a mediocre season on a mediocre team. But it is so much more than that -- It is amazing how Linda Zinnen puts you in Matt's head as he plays through an up and down season while fearing for his brother Tom's life who is hospitalized by cancer. Matt's season runs in parallel to Tom's fight against his own mortality. Matt has to balance the sacrifices he is making by leaving a championship team for a perenniel also-ran to be near his brother, against his own frailties and fears that Tom may never come out alive again.
