As a native Roanoker, I learned SO MUCH! This is a great book for anyone who currently lives in "The 'Noke" as well as anyone interested in this area of SW Virginia. Fabulous stories. Some interesting pix. At less than 130 pages and divided into short chapters, I was able to finish this book in just two afternoons. Loved the author's style. It was as if you were sitting in your living room and he was telling you the Roanoke tales. I especially enjoyed the story of how the Mill Mountain Star came to be as well as the history of Shenandoah Life Company. Who knew that Roanoke had some amazing connections to historical and infamous characters?! Highly recommend.
