Come as you are, and you will never be the same
This is the invitation we have from the Scriptures, the promise we have in Christ. Yet, it's often hard for us humans, as our worst critics, to truly come as we are. It's hard for us to see ourselves as God sees us. Hence, we bring parts of us, but not our whole selves, to the altar. We hide parts of us that we are ashamed of. We hold on to parts of us that we ascribe a high value to. Sadly, what we hide or hold back can become barriers to fellowship with God and with others.
Consequentially, it's also hard to accept others as they are. At times, we might appear too judgmental when we do not know the full story. However, when we start to embrace God's grace for ourselves, it grounds us, changes the way we see ourselves and others, and naturally helps us become more compassionate toward others as well.
Through these thought-provoking devotions, Chou empowers readers to visit hidden parts of their own lives and re-examine how they relate to self, God, and others. Holding nothing back, she uses personal experiences to bring the Bible to life in very relevant and relatable ways, so we can all truly come as we are
