This is one of the best dog training books in the market. I have four lovely rambunctious corgi boys and they are one noisy lot (not untypical of Corgis) whenever they are excited, be it encountering other dogs or playing with each other. One of them pulls me like a sled when he's on leash. Another one's a jealous brat who growls at his bros whenever they come near me. And there's this other one who keeps jumping up and bruising me all over.... Having said all this, I must admit I cannot be considered an inexperienced owner - my dogs can peform well over two dozen commands, are perfectly housetrained, takes turn to eat in an orderly fashion and are marvellous off leash. What Jeanne's book does so well is to fine-tune and up the ante in the two-way communication process between owner and dog via: (1) anticipation; (2) correction; (3) obedience training; (4) praising and always finishing off with (5) neck massage. This structured process brings distinct clarity to our doggie companions as to what is expected of them without us ever wondering why our commands remain half-baked and half-assimilated and/or us ever needing to raise our voices again. I never thought that it would be possible to teach old(er) dogs new(er) tricks but the many invaluable pointers in Jeanne's book make it both simple and effective for me to modify if not entirely halt the less desirable behavior in my dogs in a matter of days. This is a real gem of a book for serious owners wishing to improve on their bonding with their most loyal friends. I trust that readers of Jeanne's book would feel as empowered as I do - nothing less than a demi-pro trainer already! 5 Stars!

This book has been a TREMENDOUS help to not only me but my family as well. Whenever anyone of us as a problem with either our own dogs or the dogs next door we open the book and there is the solution! It is easy to read and clearly gives the suggestions and why they will work. ...and they do! Ms Carlson has also been helpful with her phone consultations. I don't know how anyone with a dog manages without this book.
Must Have for Training.

I was very pleased with this purchase. The information is terrifically organized so that you can easily find it, and I wasn't able to find one problem I have encountered with my two new pups that was not covered in this book. What I most liked about this book is that it not only explains the problem, but why the dog is doing it in the first place. This has helped me to put their training in perspective and see what they are trying to do, or think they are doing. It just helps me be a better 'alpha dog' I feel.I can easily recommend this book to anyone with a dog or with a notion of getting a dog. This will not be money wasted.

If you're getting a puppy or have a young dog who's causing problems, forget all the other dog training books you're thinking of buying. If you buy Jeanne Carlson's book you won't need any others. In addition to buying her book & loving it, Jeanne personally trained our 2 yr. old yellow lab, Gede. Thanks to Jeanne's miraculous touch & training, Gede has grown up to be an almost perfect dog: mild tempered, calm, loving, etc.Jeanne's book lays out every significant problem area clearly, consisely; and gives you easy to follow directions for how to correct them. She also points out the reasons for the problems & the reasons why the solutions will work in terms of your dog's psychology. It may sound a bit silly, but Jeanne has learned to see the world through a dog's eyes & has profound empathy for the species. You can't go wrong w. Jeanne!Richard Silverstein
Solved all my dog problems!

You don't have to read the whole book to solve every problem you have with your dog--just pick the problem and read that section. This is the best book I've ever read on how to deal with doggie issues. It also helped me understand my dog's mind and heart. The best chapter is the one on what to do if your dog sniffs people's crotches! The author's writing is entertaining, clear and quite funny. I have given this book to over a dozen friends who got new puppies and they all swear by it! Read this book!!!
