He who was promised in the Old Testament arrives in the New. Fulfilling his mission to seek and save the lost, Jesus' life was a fresh breeze across the landscape of stale religion-a gust of grace... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This book is the fourth in a series of five books by Charles Swindoll and his team of writers. This book surveys the first 13 books of the New Testament section of the Bible. It begins with "Matthew" and ends with "First Thessalonians". I like this book for at least four reasons. Firstly, there is an informative and factual study of the period between the Old and New Testaments before it actually begins the survey of "Matthew". Secondly, I like its clear explanations and 'user-friendly' approach. Things are explained in non-technical language. Thirdly, this book gives the reader a 'big-picture' of the Biblical book being surveyed. This 'big-picture' is important to have because it helps the reader not to get stuck over details and run the risk of missing the whole point of why the Biblical writer wrote what he did in the first place. Fourthly, Dr Swindoll and his team of writers focus on letting the Bible speak for itself. In so doing, the reader is presented with Who Jesus really is, and mankind's need for Jesus. One drawback is that it is brief and tends to lack depth. This notwithstanding, I still highly recommend Swindoll's work to anyone who wishes to embark on one of life's most vital pursuits... the humble, sincere study of the Bible!
