The millions of people who have cherished and drawn hope from the poem Footprints in the Sand will now find added strength in reading the story of its previously unknown author. Mary Stevenson lived the message in her poem she wrote in the early 1930s. After losing her mother and the brother she was close to while she was still an impetuous little girl, Mary's troubles with her strict, demanding father increased. She married to escape her home life, then fled again to save herself and her child from abuse and near-starvation from a husband who kept her prisoner in their apartment. Through it all, the Lord's love reached out to her, carrying her when her load was too heavy. And in the end, her example of spiritual and personal triumph, like her poem, is an inspiring story of renewal.
I dont remember the first time that I read this poem. I do know that it is one of my favorites. This book is a look into the world that created the poem. It is amazing to read what this women went through. Where many people would have given up Mary keeps going and looks to the brighter side of things. If you love the poem please read this book. It is a great gift item! J.D.

What a beautiful and motivational look at the life of the author of the immortal poem, "Footprints in the Sand". Mary Stevenson is a true survivor who never loses her ability to look at the world and it's people in the most optimistic light. Her faith never waivers, despite the obstacles and tragedies she endures from childhood on. Ms. Giorgio (the author) obviously took great pains to learn and relate the true story of the woman behind one of the greatest poems of all time. I highly recommend it to everyone - makes a wonderful gift too!
