If you like Patrick White's novels, you will like this autobiographical sketch. His writing here has the same jewel-like clarity and stunning depth. He is by turns sardonic, austere, self-deprecating to the point of self-bashing, and a wonderful raconteur. The part about meeting Queen Elizabeth is particularly amusing. As always, White creates a world inside your mind, with as much color and life as your own thoughts.
