Finding Out about Whales

I have just finished reading,"Finding Out About Whales"by Elin Kelsey.The first thing that strikes me is the beautiful photo on the cover of a pod of killer whales with kayakers paddling close by.In addition,the book has colorful photos on every page of various kinds of whales going about their daily lives.Some snapshots show the researchers studying and interacting with the whales.The author explains everything very clearly as to the scientific terms involved with easy to understand side notes.Likewise,she uses many analogies and depictions to describe proportions and dimensions of these huge sea animals.For example,the blue whale's length is:(30m/98ft.=2.7 schoolbuses).Throughout the book there are thought provoking questions with informative answers which are presented in a certain light vein,so that the material is enjoyable and fun to read.Furthermore,the information is well documented in that it comes from the researchers themselves who have evidently worked closely with the author.One can learn quite a bit from this book.Nevertheless,the author stresses that there is still much to be discovered.This book is unique,easy to read and I thoroughly enjoyed it.It's geared toward young folk,but anyone of any age would come away smiling.
