These Great Noble families, are descendants of the Counts Lords, Barons, Knights of "The Chateau de la Fled". They held large estates, possessions, and castles in Alsace, and Lorraine, france. The main castles were in and about Colmar, which still bear their names. They were strong powerful proprietors, who ruled with a very strong arm. The Field Family and Ancestors held these lands for centuries before, to include the period of the fall of the Roman Empire. A Cadet Knight named "Hubertus de la Fled" who is the progenitor of the English "De La Fled" who with his family, they were seated at the "Chateau de la Fled". He came to England with the Duke of Normandy, "William the Conqueror" and fought for him at the battle of Hastings. It is recorded in the Great Survey of 1068 of King William, that "Hubertus de la Fled" held lands and Lordships in the county of Lancaster, England, which were granted to him, for his military service in 1066, for his fighting in the Battle of Hastings. It was here that King Harold of England was defeated and slain.
