The third edition of this highly successful textbook is updated throughout and printed in 2 colors in a new larger format. Coverage includes the reproductive anatomy, endocrine control and selection for breeding of both the mare and the stallion, and also pregnancy, parturition and lactation in the mare. This comprehensive text goes onto study how this knowledge can be applied to the successful breeding of horses, maximizing both productivity and animal welfare. It has also been expanded to include more recent experimental work and updated references, including a brand new chapter on the significant developments in embryo technology. This widely popular, extensively illustrated textbook is an essential addition to the collections of equine science students, practicing veterinarians and stud managers.
Just a note from the author to let you know that a new edition has been produced, published in January 2003 and is now available. The new edition is based on the format of the first edition but has been changed considerably in places to reflect new research and knowledge. Many people have told me that the old edition is an excellent teaching book for degree students and reference book for practionners and Veterinary surgeons - I am very grateful for their encouraging comments. I hope that this new edition will proove to be just as valuable. Please note I have also written a more specialist book entitled Equine AI and published by the same publishers CABI.

The book has good visual aids and is well written. The only drawback is the British English Terminology. The book is a must have for any breeder and is worth while for the pro and indispensible for the novice.
