Crystal cave in Joplin Missouri is a Geode of immense size lying some 70 feet below the surface. Covered on all sides with giant crystals it was first opened in 1908 when mining in the area dewatered the cave. It became a tourist attraction as well as a cool summer center of entertainment with a dance floor. When mining stopped in the area the cave was reclaimed by the water and to this day it remains water filled. It is still hoped that one day the cave can be restored and once again its remarkable crystals, some two feet in length, can be enjoyed once again.
