By improving the way we, as parents, interact with our children, we can improve their behavior. Thus the importance of "being of good cheer"; of what we say and how we say it; of creating a safe,... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Excellent parenting book, from dealing with toddler tantrums to teenage angst (and even communicating with spouses.) Not sure what the fact that the author is Mormon has to do with anything... all of the concepts are in accordance with Biblical teachings. Great book.
Best parenting book I have read
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 19 years ago
This is the best parenting book I have ever read. I love it. All the ideas are sound, reasonable and they work. I love that I can reconcile all the teachings with my religious beliefs. I highly recommend it. It has become more of a reference book than one for one time reading. Make sure to have your bible handy, there are some great references to look up and ponder. I have a relationship with my children that is better than ever as a result of these ideas. It isn't easy though. It has made recognize some things that I am not doing well enough and I have had to make some difficult changes in order to see results.

The ideas in this book are so simple but so powerful. These practices have changed the atmosphere in our home. Things are happier, calmer and in control. Thank you, Dr. Latham
Christ meets B. F. Skinner

Glenn Latham, a family counselor and educational consultant, achieves something remarkable in this book: He implies that if Jesus and B. F. Skinner had written child-rearing manuals, their books might have been more alike than different. Both would urge a loving, patient, positive approach, with lots of praise and hugs for good works; both would recommend rejecting bad behavior, but not the person who commits it; and both would oppose punishment as a way of modifying undesirable behavior. This book shows that reasonable people can embrace effective, scientifically validated procedures (such as positive reinforcement) without betraying their religious beliefs.
How do you get a book cannonized as scripture?

Christlike Parenting should be in every home, right there next to the Holy Bible! (And read just as much!) I can't begin to tell you how this book has helped me and my wife become better parents. Parent/Child conflicts are at an all-time low. My boys are actually sleeping through the night. First time in four years. That is a miracle. Dr. Latham shows how we can become much better parents by following the teachings of Christ. He uses real life examples and scriptures to illustrate his methods. Most importantly I think, Dr. Latham recommends love. Love changes kids. I am a believer. I love this book.
