Chinese Mythology takes a look at the more philosophical side of creation stories and myths. The myths contain strong influences from Chinese folk religion, Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism. Each chapter is followed by a Question and Answer section which covers characters, themes, and symbols. An Expert Commentary section enhances the myths with opinions by noted scholars. Wonderful original illustrations accompany the text.
The ten chapters inside this book are beautifully interwoven from one to the next, giving a surface and concise look into each myth. Starting from the creation myth Chinese Mythology introduces us to many of the chief myths of China, including the Monkey God, how human beings were made, and the story moon goddess, amongst others.
This is definitely a beginner's and learning book as with each chapter there were a questions and answers section to cement what you just read, and expert commentary from scholars familiar with these stories. That was great as I knew little of Chinese mythology, this was the perfect book for me to start my learning and research with.
