Director of the University of Tennessee Gardens, Susan Hamilton teams up with veteran garden writer Laura Peters to present the best varieties of plants for gardens in the Volunteer State. Perennials, annuals, trees, shrubs, vines, climbers, roses, bulbs and herbs are featured.
As someone who has very little knowledge of or experience with plants, I am constantly reading this book to discover what to plant and where to plant it. The book is divided into eight sections, each color coded. They are: Annuals, Perennials, Trees & Shrubs, Roses, Vines, Bulbs, Herbs, and Ferns, Grasses & Groundcovers. I have been able to identify most of the plants in my yard with this one book. It's very easy to read and provides basic information on over 150 different plants. Great book for anyone new to gardening / planting or anyone new to Tennessee.
Great Book for Newcomers

I purchased this book for my fiancee who moved here from California. She's always been an avid gardener and took to the plants and wildlife in this area right away. This book is perfect for anyone moving into this area from a different climate who want to garden here. The illustrations and information are just enough to get started. Great book.
