I have to contradict, in many of the patterns there actually is side shaping if you look at the patterns and not the schematics. But it's not complicated. Side shaping is a good thing - stops the look of bulky cropped thingies! Quite honestly, at first I thought I made a mistake getting this book. At first sight everything looked somewhat unexciting. But I am now making three sweaters from it. So first appearances can be deceiving. One good thing about this book is the large variety of sizes. Models too. They're all attractive but they're real looking women - not skinny teenagers. That's a touch I like! Another thing I like is that she gives yardages so it's easy to calculate what you need if you use another yarn. She also sometimes shows the designs in other yarns. Anyway, I ended up ordering her newer book.
Reminiscent of "Simply Beautiful Sweaters".....

This book is along the same lines of the popular aforementioned book that was published 4 years ago. Authors of both books are yarn store owners who have provided patterns created for their patrons. Primarily high-end and novelty yarns are used and the emphasis is on simple--no side shaping, complicated stitch patterns or colorwork. Stylish, simple to accomplish and contemporary details add flair to each sweater. The 27 patterns for women are divided by chapters into tanks, tees, pullovers, cardigans and jackets. One nice feature that is unusual in a pattern book is that each sweater is shown both on a model AND laying flat, so you get a good idea of what the sweater is like. And schematic diagrams of each sweater, so convenient if altering, are provided. All in all, a book worthy of your consideration, especially if you liked "Simply Beautiful Sweaters"!

My sweaters look handmade not homemade!

I sometimes am confused by knitting instructions. These were very easy to follow and most were less than a page long. The extra tips in the margins and sidenotes help make your projects look handmade not homemade. I am on my third project!
We can't wait for the sequel!

I bought this book for my mother-in-law. She loves the book, and we love the sweaters! We will be very busy this winter, knitting several different sweaters. The tips and hints with each pattern are also very helpful for the basic knitter.
