This was one of the most frank and useful manuals I ever came across on the subject of fiction writing. It saw reprints for nearly thirty years as fiction seemed to evolve into broader forms and more convoluted theories came to prevalence, but even today Foster-Harris' principles can be observed. The book uses simple language and illustrations that are also very effective in conveying a larger idea of plot, assuredly the result of the author's experience as an instructor. As such, this would be suitable for the youngest student while offering an effective analysis of plot structure that may have eluded even experienced writers.
