The Baldwin families descend from the Counts and Earls of Flanders, France who went by the name of "Baldwin and Baudoin" as he was sometimes called, who was the first Count of Flanders, France. he was a very large Forester, and his possessions included that country situated between the rivers Somme and Murse. He wielded great influence with the ruling sovereign. He succeeded his father "Audacer" in 837AD., as the government of that province as feudatory of Emperor "Louis " successor to Chalemagne on account of his size, and great strenght and he always wore armour and was called "The Iron Arm". When he married his wife who was "Judith" daughter of Charles the Bold, she was the widow of Ethellwolf, King of Eau. Then we have a descendant of Baldwins, "Matilda Baldwin" who married "William the Conqueror" she was the daughter of Lisle / Le Debouau Baldwin IV (known as Count Gilbert) who married a sister to David, King of Scotland.
