I lived in L.A. when the Angels first came to town and well recall the colorful Bo Belinsky. It was the "Bo and Dean Show" that put Gene Autry's Angels on the map. Many wrote of Bo in those days; his amazing exploits on the Sunset Strip in the age of Sinatra!! Nobody, and I mean nobody, has come close to capturing the feel, the attitude and the unqiue sense of Americana, Southern California style, that happened when big league ball came to Hollywood, like this awesome writer Steve Travers. This book is fabulous. The writing is crisp, the prose right on, the research exemplary, and all I can say is this guy has provided a gift to Angels and baseball fans above all others. I love this stuff. There should be a movie made about Belinsky based on Travers's work. He then goes on to describe how the Angels' move to the Orange County suburbs ushered in a period of boredom, as if leaving La La Land robbed them of their character. Eventually, the club established a history of their own, and today they are a powerhouse. All of it is brilliantly detailed herein. Get this book. It is outstanding. What nostalgia!!
