Book Overview

Alcoholics Anonymous (also known as the Big Book in recovery circles) sets forth cornerstone concepts of recovery from alcoholism and tells the stories of men and women who have overcome the disease.

The fourth edition includes twenty-four new stories that provide contemporary sharing for newcomers seeking recovery from alcoholism in A.A. during the early years of the 21st century. Sixteen stories are retained from the third edition, including the Pioneers of A.A. section, which helps the reader remain linked to A.A.'s historic roots, and shows how early members applied this simple but profound program that helps alcoholics get sober today. Approximately 21 million copies of the first three editions of Alcoholics Anonymous have been distributed. It is expected that the new fourth edition will play its part in passing on A.A.'s basic message of recovery. This fourth edition has been approved by the General Service Conference of Alcoholics Anonymous, in the hope that many more may be led toward recovery by reading its explanation of the A.A. program and its varied examples of personal experiences which demonstrate that the A.A. program works.

The first 164 pages have saved millions of lives including mine. Small enough to fit anywhere, this book has come in very handy when the need was there. Great as a gift for sponsees.

The Roadmap To Recovery

If you read the directions contained in the first 164 pages of this book and follow them like your life depends on it, you will be on your way to a better life than you ever imagined! This book is your best roadmap to recovering from alcoholism. I entrusted my life to it and have not had to take a drink since November 15, 1985. I highly recommend it.And if you ever get confused and you're not sure what to do, go to Page 164 and do what the first 4 sentences of the last paragraph say:Abandon yourself to God as you understand God. Admit your faults to Him and your fellows. Clear away the wreckage of your past. Give freely of what you find and join us.See you at the meeting!Barry T.

From denial to rebirth & the reclaiming my life.

I have been sober 9 years (as of July `98), and the primary reason for that was the Big Book of A.A. I drank for 20 years. It opened for me doors previously slammed shut (by me). It has allowed me to first find soberity and second to continue to grow as a human being. I recommend this book to anyone who may be afflicted with alcoholism or anyone living with a problem drinker. God Bless!
