Honestly, I can't say enough good things about this book. It is in my top 3 favorite books of all time, and it is just...amazing. The first half of the story is about a man named James Lynde who is in the CIA and needs an excuse to travel overseas without looking suspicious. So he marries a girl named Fran whose father owns a big company, and it is the perfect cover. Fran desperately wants to have children, and when they finally have a daughter named Jaime, she is her daddy's little girl from day 1. Fran commits suicide when Jaime is very young (I think four years old), so it's just her and her dad for most of her life. When Jaime is told that her father was killed in a plane crash and is sent to live with her aunt and uncle, she doesn't want to believe it. She spends her teenage years miserable missing her father, and when she is an adult, she begins to look for him. Someone doesn't want James Lynde found, though, so Jaime seems to hit roadblocks at every corner. As I said, this book is simply fantastic. The relationship between Jaime and her father is a really neat part of both characters, seeing just how close they are and how much they are willing to sacrifice for each other. Every daddy's girl out there will love reading about James and Jaime. And a truly amazing thing about this book is how long of a timespan it covers. The book begins in 1942 and completely tells the story of James and his military career, then transitions into Jaime's life into her adulthood as she tries to find her father and ends in 1986. Just take my word for it. A Time For Legends really is a legendary book, and anyone who takes the time to read it won't be sorry they took a peek into the lives of these wonderful characters!
