Book Overview

From the bestselling author of Going Home , which Sophie Kinsella hailed as "fabulous," comes a novel sure to touch and delight anyone who believes in love. Laura Foster is a hopeless romantic. Her friends know it, her parents know it--even Laura acknowledges she lives either with her head in the clouds or buried in a romance novel. It's proved harmless enough, even if it hasn't delivered her a real-life dashing hero yet. But when her latest relationship ends in a disaster that costs her friendships, her job, and nearly her sanity, Laura swears off men and hopeless romantic fantasies for good. With her life in tatters around her, Laura agrees to go on vacation with her parents. After a few days of visiting craft shops and touring the stately homes of England, Laura is ready to tear her hair out. And then, while visiting grand Chartley Hall, she crosses paths with Nick, the sexy, rugged estate manager. She finds she shares more than a sense of humor with him--in fact, she starts to think she could fall for him. But is Nick all he seems? Or has Laura got it wrong again? Will she open her heart only to have it broken again?

Hopelessly Swept Away

I don't know how to say this other than to say that reading this novel felt like walking through a beautiful, English countryside somewhere. It definitely was one of the better chick lit novels I've read in awhile. While predictable (as repeated a million times here), you don't really care, and it in fact propels you to read even faster. I really loved the vulnerability of the characters and genuinely cared about their lives and feelings. A must read this year, next, or whenever.

Unexpected Surprise

This book is everything I want when I read this genre. No, its not a literary masterpiece but it is a FUN read...predictable with enough twists to keep you reading and enough character development to make you care. If you enjoy movies like "Pretty Woman", then this book will hit the spot. I couldn't put it down.

Harriet Evans is great

Harriet Evans strikes again with another wonderful read. I could not put this book down. I read her first novel Coming Home and I could not wait to read her latest. The characters are wonderfully written and the twists and turns leave you wanting to stay up all night and read until the end. I wish that we all could have a Nick in our lives! Read this novel you will not be disappointed.

Lots of fun

Great escapist read--I didn't want it to end. Good dialogue, well drawn out characters. One of the best books of this type I've read in a long time.

Lots of fun

Great escapist read--I didn't want it to end. A "Cinderella story," which I always enjoy, but with a twist. People say to "follow your heart," but what if your heart keeps leading you astray? What if you find someone you really like, but he embodies all the romantic fantasties that have been so destructive to you in the past? The main character is so self-destructive in the early going of this novel, it is hard to stay with her. But part of this Cinderella story is watching someone work to change her self-destructive patterns, and find a way she can still be herself without them. The book did a great job chronicling her journey, which made it more than just an entertaining read. Entertaining it certainly was, though. Funny dialogue, situations, and characters, a plot that moves along, and that romantic hero! He's not Mr. Darcy, but there are definite similarities.
