A Family Journey With Jesus Through Lent: Prayers And Activities for Each Day

These stories are short and to the point. They keep the kids engaged by telling the story (gospel) of the day in the voice of a child in the time of Jesus. After the story, Jesus speaks to the children and asks a thought-provoking question. There are scripture memory verses and prayers in boxes outside the story for copy work, dictation, memorization, or just to share. They follow Jesus from Ash Wednesday (the Baptism of Our Lord) through the Resurrection. Each story highlights a sacrament, a virtue, or perhaps something we need to work on in our lives ~ for example judging others. There are activity suggestions in the back of the book like making pretzels, doing Stations of the Cross, and praying the Sorrowful Mysteries. Lent is a difficult time for children to understand and to make it through without understanding why they have to give up things and how history can be linked to modern life. With this book comes better understanding and deeper compassion for Jesus. This book, combined with Before and After Easter: Activities and Ideas for Lent to Pentecost, which is more activity-centered, creates wonderful, warm traditions in our family of morning readings and afternoon remembrances. It helps us all connect our lives with our faith.

This was a wonderful book that our family enjoyed sharing during this past Lent. We read a story each night either at dinner or later in the evening. The stories of Jesus's life are told from the view point of a child growing up in His time. They were easy to understand and thoroughly engaged my children. If you are seeking a way to bring your child a little closer to Christ this book will help, and the stories can be read any time of year.
