The English-language debut of an exciting young voice in international fiction, selling 660,000 copies in Japan alone, Convenience Store Woman is a bewitching portrayal of contemporary Japan through the eyes of a single woman who fits in to the rigidity of its work culture only too well
The story is deceptively short and simple but makes some very valid points on modern marriage, family and corporate culture.

I really enjoyed this, I loved our main character and her commentary on conformity. I’m glad she booted the dude and went back to being herself. I thought the book was a bit repetitive in places but something might have been lost in the translation.
Simple, wholesome and meaningful.

I love how this book makes you look inward as you read more. A great look at society and our expectations and how we treat others base on those values we put on ourselves.
Character driven story with an open/ambiguous ending.

The first half of the book was very interesting and insightful. Once a certain character became prevalent in the plot, the book was much less enjoyable.
